Who would have thought Forrest Gump actually went through with opening a restaurant? It's amazing how popular movies influence food and the restaurant business. As the pictures prove, this restaurant used a well known name and now live off of the nationally known symbol for good shrimp.

Popcorn
Popcorn is about the longest lasting pop culture food that is still around and kicking. When I watch a movie, either at the theater or just at home, I always think of a big bowl of buttery popcorn. Believe it or not, popcorn was introduced to the U.S. in the early 1800's. It wasn't until the 1940's until popcorn really took off in the theaters and hasn't slowed much since. Actually, popcorn accounts for almost 50% of theater revenue. It has dropped from 80% in 1945. Nevertheless, popcorn is the still most popular movie entertainment food around.

Eatin' Sponge Bob
What's up with kids wanting a Sponge Bob cake? This guy is so popular that even our kids want to eat him. I went to the store Sunday to look for a birthday cake and I soon found out that kids food is popularized by the cartoons they watch. There's Sponge Bob mac and cheese, Sponge Bob Speghetti O's, even Sponge Bob chicken noodle soup. How weird is it that our kids enjoy to eat Sponge Bob while they watch him on tv?
Food Network
The Food Network has created many celebrities including Rachel Ray, Guy Fieri, and even Martha Stewart. I can't leave out Man vs Food's Adam Richman either. All of these people made their stake through pop food. The trend seems to be creating more and more food celebrities. Pop culture is all about entertaining the crowd. Who doesn't enjoy watching a guy gorge his self on extreme foods or just about cry from something so hot that I would have to wear gloves to prepare.
Fast Food as Pop Culture
When I typically think of Pop Culture I usually don't think of fast food. Fast food has become the most popular way of food indulgence. I'd say Papa John's is my favorive fast food that I indulge in. Mmm pizza!
